A Chance For Your Poems To Be Featured In Buses & Win $250!

Submit your original poems for this year’s Moving Words Poetry Competition, an annual program of Arlington Cultural Affairs, co-sponsored by Arlington Transit. Poets are encouraged to respond to this year's theme: “Ripped from the Headlines.” Six winning poems will be displayed inside Arlington Transit’s ART Buses for three months between April and September 2018 where they will be seen by thousands of riders. Each winner will also receive a $250 honorarium and will be invited to give a public reading of their work in April 2018.

How are poets responding to the important issues and events of our time. Submit poems that are 10 lines or less on issues you are seeing (or not seeing) in today’s headlines that move you to write. This year's judge is Teri Ellen Cross Davis, author of Haint, published by Gival Press and Poetry Coordinator for the Folger Shakespeare Library.

Open to residents 18 years or older in the Metro DC area ((the Northern Virginia counties Arlington, Fairfax, and Loudoun and the cities Alexandria, Fairfax, and Falls Church; the District of Columbia; and the Maryland counties Montgomery and Prince George's.)

Email all submissions to [email protected]. Each poet is allowed to submit up to 3 poems. For additional guidelines, please visit https://arts.arlingtonva.us/movingwords/
