A Rail-gun is a Gun that uses electromagnetic force to launch high velocity projectiles which are accelerated along a pair of conductive rails. It's normally does not contain explosives, relying on the projectile's high speed to inflict damage. The rail-gun uses a pair of parallel conductors, or rails, along which a sliding armature is accelerated by the electromagnetic effects of a current that flows down one rail, into the armature and then back along the other rail.

It can penetrate all type of tanks and other heavy weapons.

Design and Working

The rails and projectiles are made up of strong conductive material. The rails need to survive the violence of an accelerating projectile, and heating due to the large currents and friction involved. Electricity generated by the electric source is stored over several seconds in the capacitors. Next, an electric pulse is sent to the railgun, creating an electromagnetic force accelerating the projectile up to Mach 6. The rails also repel themselves via a sideways force caused by the rails being pushed by the magnetic field, just as the projectile is. The rails need to survive this without bending and must be very securely mounted.
