The signs in 2017 point to a future of driving the friendly skies in sleek new flying cars that's just a few years away, which is about as far off as it always seems to be.

While we wait for promising contenders like AeroMobil to start delivering on a vision of transit imagined for the past several decades, there is at least one specific flying car that's up for sale and ready to be delivered this year. In fact, it's believed to be the very first flying car of the vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) variety.

The prototype of the 2001 Moller International G90 M400 Skycar is currently up for auction on eBay for any collector or museum looking to put it on display. If you buy the Skycar as is, that's about all you can do with it, because one of the conditions of purchase is that it cannot be flown as it has no FAA approval to do so.

However, Moller says it is willing to work with the buyer to soup it up in order to pass FAA approval.

Moller and its founder Paul Moller have been working on flying car designs for nearly half a century but with no commercial success and ongoing struggles in generating cash and investment.
