Trails & Paths
All paths in the main section of Kirstenbosch Gardens are paved.
There are two special routes along level, paved paths for wheelchairs. Known as the Weaverbird Walk and the Silver Tree Stroll, both are clearly signposted with the wheelchair sign.
There is also a Braille Trail for the blind which passes through natural Table Mountain forest and fynbos and the plants are all clearly labelled with Braille and large-print labels.
Two streams cut through Kirstenbosch, both laced with besembos, red alder and hard fern. Cecil Rhodes planted an avenue of camphor trees and fig trees in 1898, and a section of wild almond hedge was planted by Jan van Riebeeck in 1660.
Skeleton-gorge-waterfall
Colonel Bird's Bath in the Kirstenbosch was built by Colonel Christopher Bird, it was designed to collect the water and let it stand and clarify before being piped to his house for drinking water. It is often incorrectly referred to as Lady Anne Barnard's bath.
This granite Celtic cross in Kirstenbosch marks the grave of the garden's first director, Professor Harold Pearson, and it bears the inscription: 'If ye seek his monument, look around.'
The grave is surrounded by one of the world's most famous reserves of indigenous flora.
All information about Kirstenbosch Gardens I found in their Brochure I received on my last visit and from their offical web site.
