This March, AFL footy comes to Wyndham
Wyndham residents will have the opportunity to attend two upcoming AFL football games in their own backyard over the first weekend in March.
Avalon Airport Oval at the newly redeveloped Chirnside Park, Werribee will showcase two amazing AFL footy games over the weekend of Saturday, 2 March and Sunday, 3 March.
Saturday’s ticketed match will see North Melbourne take on St Kilda as part of the JLT pre-season, while Sunday will see the AFLW heading to Chirnside Park for the very first time.
Sports Development Portfolio Holder, Cr Peter Maynard, said having the games held at Chirnside Park showed the AFL’s confidence in Wyndham as a major sporting hub and was testament to the $11.75 million redevelopment of the facility.
“It’s not only a great opportunity to watch your footy heroes and rising stars in action, it’s also an opportunity to experience first-hand all this newly redeveloped facility has to offer,” Cr Maynard said.
“These two games will be blockbusters. North Melbourne and St Kilda is always a great match-up and I’m particularly excited to see AFLW’s new North Melbourne side playing their first ever Victorian game against the Adelaide Crows here in Wyndham,” he said.
The AFLW game on Sunday is a free event and a chance to check out the popular new women’s league as well as spend time with friends and family, Cr Maynard said.
“It’s also a good opportunity to take advantage of all of the great things on offer in the Werribee City Centre before or after the game.”
