Exploring the France RivieresteemCreated with Sketch.

The village of St. Jeannet sits on a ledge beneath the towering Baou de St. Jeannet, with the Baou de la Gaude just to the right (east), and the Baou des Noirs and Baou des Blancs lined up to the west towards Vence. The village is beautiful, picturesque, authentic, and not overrun with tourists.

Off to Baou de St Jeannet

A climb worth the effort

It's about 2.5 km of non-stop uphill, but the view is worth the climb. And it's not that bad: There were under school-aged kids there. The view at the top is magnific.

There's only two notes to take: It's a southern hill, so in the summer, it will be hot climb. Take the time to explore the village before you hike up the baous. There are a lot of little streets winding back through the ancient buildings, and you'll see the lovely Eglise Paroissiale St-Jean-Baptiste. Wandering through the old streets, you'll discover a little "Panorama" terrace after going through a beautiful low arched passage. Among the old buildings and other ancient things to see in the village are a couple of pretty fountains, one of them dating to 1875.

A great nature stroll

Wonderful views, varied vegetation and plenty to choose from, as there are several itineraries.

Beautiful views from the top

Well worth walking up here. We went mid morning which was good as it would have been harder in the heat of the day. The views from the Orientation table are stunning and we were lucky to have a clear day. It was particularly pretty looking down on the village of St Jeannet. Very pretty walking up through the trees in the lower part of the walk.
