Gary Cahill has joined the chorus of Chelsea players who are upset to see Mo Salah in such good form for Liverpool right now.

He admits that Chelsea new Salah had the talent - but the player decided he just had to go for regular football.

He told the London Evening Standard: “He found chances limited here but that’s football. You need time to play, you need confidence.

“Speaking from experience, you’re coming into a quality dressing room and it is a very difficult club to break into, to stay here, maintaining a position season after season.

“The competition is always there. Chelsea buy players so you’re always under threat. The club make the decisions and that’s that. But players make the decision, too. If they’re not getting enough game time, they look to leave.

Coutinho, Ozil and Barcelona's January plans

It’s been a while since we heard from our friends at the Catalan newspapers.

Sport and Mundo Deportivo are back today, and they do actually have a quite interesting update on Philippe Coutinho and Barcelona.

It’s reported that the bigwigs at the Camp Nou have decided that Coutinho is the top target for Barcelona in January and they will make a renewed effort to sign the Liverpool midfielder.

Sometimes it’s difficult if someone wants to play all the time and doesn’t, what do you do in that situation? I saw the ability Salah had because I trained with him a lot.
“Chelsea fans didn’t see him as much as we would have hoped to. He has grown into a very good player. But many other players have been released by Chelsea and haven’t gone on.”

But in light of how the Reds stood firm in the summer months and rejected Barcelona’s advances, they are busy making contingency plans.

That’s where Mesut Ozil comes in. The Arsenal man is out of contract this summer, so Barcelona believe he should be obtainable in January and he reportedly tops their list of Coutinho alternatives.

On this day

One of my favourite Steven Gerrard goals, this.

Especially as he clearly wasn’t expecting Lucas to knock the ball into his path when he did!
