The pace with which blockchain technology is being adopted through various sectors around the world is unprecedented.

The most recent news about blockchain’s adoption by yet another entity is not just related to the technology’s use, but its utilization to accept cryptocurrency payments.

The entity in question is Brisbane Airport (BNE), which very recently announced that it would be enabling functions to accept cryptocurrency payments for its terminal shopping. To execute its plans, BNE has partnered with TravelbyBit, a cryptocurrency payment solutions provider that specializes in tourism-related programs.

What the program will entail

By using TravelbyBit’s services, BNE aims to open doors to its terminal services for cryptocurrency users.

Users will be able to utilize popular cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Dash to avail the services and shop for products offered through the terminal. Through this venture, BNE aims to garner the interest of potential tourists and travelers to increase user engagement for frequent flyers that may use cryptocurrencies.

At the moment, some of the services that can be availed at BNE include access to popular Australian stores such as Botanist, Windmill & Co., and Forte Espresso. It also includes several travel retail locations that are popular in the region.

The airport hopes that the initiative will help promote these local businesses and would also cause other institutions to look into similar projects and options so that Australia could establish itself as an innovation-friendly region while also benefitting from that reputation.

Roel Hellemons, the general manager for strategic planning and development of the Brisbane Airport Corporation, said in a statement:

> “Many people around the world have made money investing in cryptocurrencies and a lot of these people travel internationally, so it makes sense to offer a digital currency experience within our terminals.”
He further mentioned that this will make BNE the first ever airport to have introduced such an initiative.

He said:
“We’re also proud to be the first airport in the world to achieve this in partnership with a small local start-up business such as TravelbyBit, whose pioneering thinking is drawing attention to Brisbane as a serious breeding ground of innovative thinking.”

TravelbyBit plans to expand this further

Since TravelbyBit specializes in facilitating tourism through cryptocurrency payments, BNE is just the launch pad for an array of services provided throughout Brisbane by the company.

TravelbyBit’s payment solutions range from hotels to renowned restaurants to entertainment locations, especially in Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley which some often refer to as the “Crypto Valley” due to the local businesses’ acceptance towards cryptocurrencies.

The payment solutions provider hopes that the partnership with BNE would provide its other ventures and efforts the exposure that they need, as the usage of cryptocurrencies in cross-border travels is only logical and has a lot of undiscovered potential.

> “We are building a genuine use case for cryptocurrencies in the tourism industry. The application of digital currencies in this sector makes a lot of sense.” TravelbyBit’s CEO, Caleb Yeoh, said in a statement. “Whenever you travel overseas you have to deal with multiple currencies and you never know what exchange rates the banks are charging you. Here at TravelbyBit we are promoting the Bitcoin travel movement. Digital currency for world-wide travel. It’s simple, safe and there’s no bank fees.”<
