The CNMI Chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management will feature two stress management experts at its Nov. 30 membership meeting at the Pacific Islands Club’s Charley’s Cabaret, from 11:30am to 1:30pm.

Wilma Villanueva and Christopher Cabrera, both of the Community Guidance Wellness Center, are Saipan-born and -raised and have master’s degrees in counseling. Together they will provide a workshop providing guidance on the management of stress.

Stress is a fact of everyday life—but too much stress often makes people ineffective and reduces the control they have over their lives. This program is intended to help participants identify their personal difficulties, will point out stress management and relaxation strategies and discuss how to become more effective in handling everyday pressures in a sustainable way.

Villanueva attended National University of San Diego, where she graduated with a bachelor’s in Psychology and a master’s in Counseling Psychology with an Emphasis on Marriage and Family Therapy.

She has worked for the past five years at the Commonwealth Healthcare Corp.’s Community Guidance Center under the Wellness Clinic, providing individual/family therapy and psycho-education in the community

Cabrera has a bachelor’s in Psychology from Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, Arizona, and a master’s in Counseling from the University of Guam. He worked with the CNMI Public School System for nearly 10 years as both a teacher and school counselor and has worked with children of all ages at different grade levels. Since February 2017, he has served as a psychotherapist for the Community Guidance Wellness Center.

Their presentation is open to the public and will be an invaluable opportunity for employers, managers, and HR professionals and staff to learn more about the effect of stress in the workplace and what can be done to alleviate it. Please join SHRM at its monthly luncheon to collaborate with fellow HR professionals and to discuss a problem that affects everyone personally and professionally. The speakers will provide an opportunity for questions.

The presentation includes the PIC lunch buffet at the cost of $20 for SHRM members and $30 for non-members. Seats are limited, so reserve your seat by contacting Penny Jones by email at [email protected] or Denise Montenegro at [email protected] or by telephone at 323-5867/68.

SHRM is the world’s largest association devoted to human resource management. For more information about the NMI Chapter, you can visit their website at nmichapter.shrm.org. (PR)
