When it comes to patriotism, there isn’t even an iota of ambiguity in terms of options as comparable to the esteemed Indian Army. To many, it must appeal to put their best foot forward in paying the debt back. We here present various options to be a part of this elite organization.

Following are the types of entries notified by the Indian Army twice every year:

National Defence Academy
Technical Entry Scheme
Indian Military Academy (NonTech)
Short Service Commission (NonTech)
Short Service Commission (Tech Men & Women)
Technical Graduate Course (Education)
JAG Judicial Advocate Entry(Men & Women)
University Entry Scheme
Indian Army Education Corps
Based on the mode of entry we discuss them as under:

Entries in the Indian Army after class 12th
Candidates are admitted under the Technical Entry Scheme and through the prestigious UPSC conducted examination of the National Defense Academy. For the former, the candidates are called on the basis of a threshold board examination cut-off marks, for the SSB whereas; the aspirants have to write an objective test in order to get a call.

The SERVICE SELECTION BOARD or the SSB happens to be one of the most stringent exams of the country. Spanning over 5 days, this happens to test the screened-in candidates both in terms of team spirit as well as the psychological agility. The candidates recommended by the board are finally sent for a medical test (which itself is infamous for rejecting around 1/3rd of the recommended candidates).

Entries in the Indian Army after graduation
This again can be of Technical or Non-Technical nature (as a rule of thumb, know that SSB is a must):

Candidates, after getting recommended from an interview organized at the parent university, are thoroughly examined through the SSB and are recruited into the army subject to clearance of the fitness test.

Unlike the university entry scheme, the candidates short-listed on the basis of their marks in the relevant discipline, are called for the SSB, followed by the medical test finally culminating into recruitment.

Combined Defence Services Examination or the CDSE

Herein, the candidates, like in the case of the NDA, after clearing the objective test, are required to appear for the SSB followed by the fitness test. The recommended candidates, depending upon the nature of the commission, are trained in the Indian Military Academy, Dehradun (Permanent commission) or the Officer’s Training Academy; Chennai (Short Service Commission) for the OTA course, female candidates can also apply.

Judicial Advocate General Entry – JAG
