While Mumbai is surrounded by popular monsoon getaways which attract a number of visitors on weekends, there are some hidden gems in Maharashtra that nobody knows about. these offbeat monsoon destinations near Mumbai are not crowded at all and make for serene, rejuvenating weekend getaways for those who do not like the cliched spots.

Maharashtra is home to a number of delightful monsoon destinations that spring to life when the rains hit them in June. Spread across the state, these lovely destinations attracts hoards of tourists throughout the monsoon season. With part of the Western Ghats in the state, it is natural that Maharashtra turns lush green during monsoon. Ranging from beaches to hill stations and grasslands to waterfalls, Maharashtra’s monsoon holiday spots make for excellent weekend getaways. These spots have now transformed into extremely popular weekend holiday destinations for locals and tourists alike. However, there are several hidden places tucked away in the interiors of Maharashtra which become as mesmerizing during monsoon as the popular ones.

Morachi Chincholi

Located near Pune, Morachi Chincholi is Maharashtra’s prime peacock destination. The dancing peacocks during monsoon here are a sight to behold. This rural area dotted with tamarind trees and lush green farms is a delightful break from the urban noise and pollution. It is located at a distance of 186 km and takes around 3 hours and 50 minutes to reach from Mumbai.

Tapola

Tapola has earned the sobriquet of Maharashtra’s mini Kashmir thanks to its scenic beauty and splendid weather. The hill station is located close to Mahabaleshwar but is far less crowded. Tapola serves the base to the Vasota fort trek and is home to the lovely Shivsagar lake which is worth a visit for its water sporting activities. Monsoons bring out the best in Tapola making it a ideal time for a weekend getaway from Mumbai. Distance from Mumbai to Tapola is 259 km and it takes around 5 hours and 45 minutes to reach by road.

Dapoli

Perhaps one of the most serene, clean and picturesque regions in the interiors of Maharashtra, the coastal area of Dapoli is home to some stunning beaches. Located in the Ratnagiri district, Dapoli is a coastal town which makes you forget the urban hustle-bustle. Clean and dreamy beaches like Murud, Harnai and Anjarle make for rejuvenating picnic spots and the pleasant weather makes for a romantic ambiance too. Tikona

One of the easiest but most rewarding treks in Maharashtra, Tikona fort is located on a beautiful hillock with great views of the surrounding greenery. Also known as Vitangad, Tikona is just 60 km from Pune in the Maval region. During monsoon, the area surrounding the base village of Tikona-Peth becomes lush green and astonishing making the trek a memorable experience. DIstance from Mumbai to Tikona fort is 121 km and it takes around 2 hours and 30 minutes to reach the base village. The trek itself takes just about an hour and 15 minutes.

Tamhini Ghat

And then there is the Tamhini Ghat tucked away in the mountain ranges of the Western Ghats. The ghat is actually a passage between Mulshi and tamhini and makes for an extremely scenic drive. During monsoon, it turns into a paradise full of green hillocks and cascading waterfalls. It prvides some of the most breathtaking landscapes in Maharashtra for those who dig natural beauty.
