The Stone on The Road

**Once the people of a country had become so lazy that their King felt distressed He wanted to test them. So he but a big stone placed in the middle of a busy street one night and placed guards to observe.

At day break people began to move about as usual Seeing the big stoned in the middle of the road, they cursed it and began to move round it. Even the carts went round the stone. Some complained loudly. Others said they must make a complaint to the King to get it cleared. But not a single person touched the stone or tried to move it aside. The guards who were observing all this and reported it to the King. His people’s careless attitude and laziness saddened ’ " the King."

At last an old lady happened to pass that way She noticed the stone in the middle of the road. She also saw the inconvenience it was causing to the passers-by. The old lady bent and tried to move the stone by herselt It was very heavy but nobody came to her aid The guards Who were keeping Watch rushed to her side and helped her to move the stone. As it rolled to one side a purse was seen underneath. The old lady gave it to the guards but they ' handed it back to her and asked her to open it. The purse was full of gold coins and inside the purse was a piece of paper, which had these words "To
whoever moves the stone The Kings seal was on the paper."

The people who had gathered around saw the purse and the slip of paper. They were ashamed that they had not even tried to move the stone.**
