SOUTH AFRICA VS BANGLADESH T20I SERIES
10/30/2017 RUBIN BANGLADESH, SOUTH AFRICA, SOUTH AFRICA VS BANGLADESH T20I SERIES
Despite a dreadful tour to South Africa in the Test and ODI series, the Bangladeshis could have saved some face and gained a little credit if they could turn the tables and perform well in the shortest format of the game. Indeed, in Game 1 they were much more respectable, though that was short lived as the South Africans caned them again in Game 2 by a huge 83-run margin. Thus, all in all, it was a winless tour for the Bangladeshi outfit, though it would’ve been rather surprising if it was any other way.
1st T20I – Bloemfontein – Oct 26th 2017
South Africa elected to bat first and did very well, compiling a score of 4/195, with ODI standouts de Kock and de Villiers leading the way. Opener, de Kock smashed 59 from 44, while de Villiers mashed 8 boundaries in his 27-ball 49, while Berhardien’s effort late helped build the huge target score, when he belted 36 from 17. None of the bowlers were brilliant, but Mehidy Hasan Miraz restricting the South Africans to 31 from his allotted 4 overs, and 2 wickets was easily the standout. Others such as Saifuddin, Shafiul Islam and Taskin Ahmed struggled mightily and went for more than 10 per over.
It was a spirited chase led by Sarkar who managed 47 from 31 balls, including 5 boundaries and 2 sixes, while Saifuddin impressed after failing with the ball, to remain unbeaten on 39 off just 27 balls. All of the bowlers for South Africa contributed heavily, with Paterson, Frylinck and Phehlukwayo all excelling, restricting the Bangladeshis to economy rates under 8.5. One or two more batsmen needed to contribute more heavily for Bangladesh to succeed as captain Shakib, Mahmudullah and Mushfiqur their 3 best batsmen combined for just 29. The Player of the Match award went to AB de Villiers, following his awesome batting.

2nd T20I – Potchefstroom – Oct 29th 2017
After winning the toss, Bangladesh decided to send South Africa in, and hope their chasers would rectify the issues, their senior batsmen faced in Game 1. South Africa performed even better, this time with 4/224, thanks to a blitzkrieg 101 not out from David Miller, from just 36 balls with 7 boundaries and 9 maximums. Hashim Amla continued his brilliant all-format series against Bangladesh, with 85 from 51, where he smashed 11 boundaries and 1 six. Shakib bowled wonderfully, with 4 overs 2/22 his figures, but everyone else was dreadful, all of them ceded more than 10 runs per over.
The chase was awfully poor from Bangladesh as they were dismissed for 141 inside 19 overs, and only Sarkar got going, scoring 44. Again, key batsmen Kayes, Shakib, Mushfiqur and Sabbir all failed, as they were removed for single digit scores. Hendricks and Phangiso starred with the ball, although all 6 bowlers were rewarded with wickets. Obvious candidate, David Miller was Man of the Match, after giving his teammates and the crowd a batting display they will not soon forget. For Bangladesh, this signals the end to an arduous tour, that they will be keen to forget, and move on from, despite the fact, that they don’t have any notable International fixtures coming up in the near future.
