ดินโป่งกับผีโป่ง เป็นเรื่องเล่าที่สืบทอดกันมาหลายชั่วอายุคน ตั้งแต่ครั้งสมัยปู่ย่าตายาย เกี่ยวกับเรื่องการหากินของสัตว์ป่า ไม่ว่าจะไปกินน้ำ ดินโป่ง หรือว่าลูกไม้ก็ตาม สมัยนั้นเชื่อกันว่าสัตว์ป่าแต่ละฝูง จะมีผู้ซึ่งคอยดูแลอยู่ หรือที่เรียกกันว่า เจ้าของสัตว์ป่า

ซึ่งจะคอยควบคุมสัตว์ป่าแต่ละตัวให้อยู่ในกฏ ตัวไหนที่เกเร นิสัยไม่ดี ก็มักจะถูกคัดออก การคัดออกในที่นี้ ก็หมายถึงให้กลายไปเป็นเหยื่อของพราน ซึ่งพรานป่าในสมัยก่อนนั้น มักจะอธิษฐานขอสัตว์ป่าที่เกเร ก่อนที่จะเข้าไปล่าสัตว์

เขาจึงยกปืนขึ่้นเล็งลำกล้องไปยังหมูป่าตัวนั้น แล้วก็ลั่นไกออกไป "ปั้ง!!" เสียงปืนดังสนั่นป่า พร้อมกับเสียงร้องของหมูป่าตัวนั้น มันล้มลงแล้วดิ้นอยู่บนใบไม้แห้ง สักพักก็หยุดแน่นิ่ง ชายผู้นั้นรีบบรรจุกระสุนปืน แล้วนอนเฝ้าหมูตัวนั้นอยู่บนห้าง จนกระทั่งถึงเช้าจึงลงมาเอาหมูกลับบ้าน

ดินโป่งถือเป็นอาหารโปรดของสัตว์ป่านาๆชนิด ซึ่งแต่ละแห่งจะแตกต่างกันออกไป บางแห่งก็มีสัตว์ป่าออกมากินอย่างชุกชุม แต่บางแห่งก็แทบไม่มีสัตว์ตัวใดเข้ามากิน มีเรื่องเล่าเกี่ยวกับดินโป่งแห่งนึง ซึ่งชื่อว่าโป่งเขาแหลม ดินโป่งแห่งนี้มีสัตว์ป่ามากินกันอย่างชุกชุม ทำให้พรานป่าต่างมานั่งห้างกันเป็นประจำ

แต่ทว่า แต่ละรายนั้น ก็เจอกับเหตุการณ์ที่แปลกประหลาดต่างกันออกไป บางคนก็ได้ยินเสียงของสัตว์ป่ามากินดินโป่งกันเป็นฝูง แต่เมื่อเวลาเปิดไฟฉายส่องดูแล้ว กลับไม่เห็นวี่แววของสัตว์แม้สักตัวเดียว บางคนเมื่อเห็นสัตว์ป่าเต็มที่แล้ว แต่พอจะยิง มันก็อันตรธานหายไปต่อหน้าต่อตา

จนทำให้โป่งนี้กลายเป็นโป่งอาถรรพ์ เพราะต่างก็ว่ามีผีโป่งสิงสถิตอยู่ แม้เวลาจะผ่านไปเนิ่นนานมากแล้ว แต่โป่งแห่งนี้ก็ยังมีร่องรอยของสัตว์ป่ามากินโป่งกันอย่างชุกชุมเช่นเดิม แต่ก็ไม่มีใครกล้าเข้ามานั่งห้างที่นี่อีก

จนกระทั่งมีบุคคลคนนึง ซึ่งไม่ใช่คนในหมู่บ้านแถบนี้ ซึ่งย้ายเข้ามาอยู่ใหม่ ได้ไปเที่ยวป่า และได้ไปพบกับโป่งแห่งนี้เข้า เค้าจึงได้มานั่งที่โป่งนี้ และก็ได้พบกับเหตุการณ์เช่นเดียวกับที่คนอื่นๆเคยพานพบมา

และจากประสบการณ์การเที่ยวป่าของเค้านั้น ทำให้เค้ารู้ได้ว่าในโป่งแห่งนี้ ยังคงมีวิญญาณของสัตว์นาๆชนิด ที่ยังคงวนเวียนอยู่ ไม่ได้ไปผุดไปเกิด เค้าจึงได้ทำพิธีปิดโป่ง โดยการนำปลอกของลูกปืนที่เคยยิงสัตว์ มาฝังไว้ที่โป่งแห่งนี้ เพื่อเป็นการปลดปล่อยวิญญาณของสัตว์เหล่านั้นออกไป ไม่นาน โป่งแห่งนั้นก็กลายเป็นโป่งร้าง ไม่มีแม้แต่สัตว์ตัวใดเข้าไปกิน แต่เรื่องราวของโป่งแห่งนั้นก็ยังเล่าสืบต่อกันมา

ส่วนเรื่องของผีโป่งดินดำ วิญญาณของสัตว์ที่ถูกฆ่าตายตามโป่ง มันมักจะผูกอาฆาตพยาบาท เมื่อมีโอกาศ มันจะใส่ยาลงไปในตัวคน ตามป่าทั่วไปนั้น เราจะพบสัตว์ป่าที่มากินดินโป่ง ซึ่งเป็นดินที่มีธาตุอาหารพิเศษ บำรุงให้สัตว์สมบูรณ์ตามธรรมชาติ

ปรากฏว่าเมื่อสิ้นเสียงปืน กลับเกิดเสียงร้องโอดโอยครวญคราง กลายเป็นว่าพรานล่าสัตว์ยิงพรานด้วยกันเอง ดังที่มีข่าวให้เห็น สุดท้ายก็กลายเป็นผีเฝ้าโป่ง อยู่กับวิญญาณของสัตว์ที่ตนเองล่าต่อไป ตามเวรตามกรรม

บางครั้งวิญญาณของผีโป่งก็จะใส่ยา หรือง้วนพิษโป่ง ลงไปในตัวคนที่เดินตามล่าสัตว์ตามโป่ง จนมีอาการหัวเข่าบวมเป่ง เรียกกันว่าโรคโป่ง และหากรักษาไม่ถูกทาง เนื้อตอนหัวเข่าก็จะเปื่อยยุ่ย กระดูกภายในเข่าจะผิดปกติ เกิดอาการเจ็บปวดทรมาน เหมือนว่าเป็นคนขากุดขาด้วน

แต่หากบางคนไปรักษาได้ถูกทาง ก็เพียงแต่อาการบวมจะยุบตัวลง แต่ถึงว่าหายแล้ว ก็ยังเดินกระโผลกกระเผลก ไม่สมประกอบตามปกติที่เคยเป็น ผีโป่งดำถือว่าเป็นความเชื่อที่มีมานานกับชนชาวเหนือ และนี่ก็คือเรื่องราวทั้งหมด
