USS Constitution

A short documentary about the USS Constitution, one of the first of the six original frigates authorized by the Congress. The Constitution is the oldest Warship in any navy currently afloat, she is capable of sailing under her own power and does so.

She is a 44-gun frigate. She is considered a heavy frigate and for her size, she is quite fast for her era.

Her crew is entirely active duty navy and still considered a commissioned ship in the United States Navy, she is still a United States Ship (USS). Her role has changed several times over her multi-centuries of service.

From warship, to escape artist, to the victor, to training ship, and currently museum ship. She has undergone multiple renovations, and she been under the care of many. It is unknown how much of the original materials remain on board but it is known she is much loved and is​ unlikely to go anywhere.

With the difficulty of procuring the size of oak needed to replace her planks on board, ​it is incredibly​​ important we continue to be realistic about​ her current role and capabilities. We must continue to preserve​ her current condition as long as possible.
