In addition to Lyst's 2017 findings of the most-searched handbags, shoes and sneakers of the year, the global fashion search platform also looked into what designers and trends were taking over online searches across 80 million users worldwide. Surprising no one, Gucci was the biggest, most-searched brand of the year with more than 35 million searches this year. Designer Alessandro Michele's signature designs for the luxury Italian brand have also become a highly coveted, profitable aesthetic, topping Lyst's most-searched trends. Users tried to find items that boasted specific Gucci signatures, like bold florals, clashing prints, snake graphics and stripes in green and red — the latter causing quite the legal battle between Gucci and Forever 21.

Funnily enough, the fast fashion retailer is second on the list of most-searched brands, according to Lyst:

  1. Gucci
  2. Forever 21
  3. Balenciaga
  4. Vetements
  5. Free People
  6. Saint Laurent
  7. Nike
  8. Topshop
  9. Michael Kors
  10. Givenchy

Following Gucci's "Gucciness" at the top of Lyst's most-searched trends, logos — both of the high-end and nostalgic sportswear variety — were also popular among shoppers. Searches for such heritage athletic brands as Champion, Fila and Kappa collectively increased by 460 percent compared to last year, reports Lyst. "Woke" fashion was also high, as searches for slogan T-shirts increased by 105 percent over the year. The piqued interest certainly reflects a rising trend among designers and brands becoming more vocal on political and social issues: Prabal Gurung, Dior and Public School have sent slogan tops down the runway with phrases like, "We will not be silenced;" "We should all be feminists;" and "We need leaders," respectively.

Rounding out the list, which you can read in full below, are searches for "jetleisure" pieces by resort-friendly brands, including Zimmerman, Mara Hoffman and Melissa Odabash, which started trending from May and through the summer. Styles that hail from the '90s, '80s and '70s are also of one of the most-searched trends, as well as deconstructed details, tailored pieces (particularly plaid blazers and candy-colored pantsuits) and elevated streetwear from Off-White, Balenciaga and Vetements.
