Chelsea and Man United clash over £50m midfielder

Premier League rival Chelsea and Manchester United are reportedly battling it out for Tottenham target Ross Barkley over summer transfer move from Goodison Park.

The 23-year-old is valued at around £50million by his club as a host of sides shows an interest in him this summer, with Arsenal also linked as admirers.

However, the Premier League duo is expected to step up their interest in the Everton man who is stalling on signing a new contract with just a year to run on his current deal.

Once regarded as one of the top young players in the Premier League, Barkley hasn’t quite lived up to expectations at Goodison Park so far, though he is seen as someone who could serve as a decent squad player for Chelsea and United.

According to the Daily Mail, Everton have not yet received a concrete offer for Barkley, but Chelsea and United could be ready to try their luck in the coming weeks

This could be a blow for long-time admirers Tottenham, who had looked to be leading the chase for Barkley’s signature, only to be put off by his rumored wage demands.

The England international net in five goals and eight assists to his team-mates last season, but may be about to be replaced by Toffees manager Ronald Koeman.

Ajax star Davy Klaassen has already been brought in, while Swansea City and Iceland international playmaker Gylfi Sigurdsson remains a target for the Merseyside club.
