Sugar skull art

in #art7 years ago (edited)

Hi guys, I made a sugar skull art which was my entry for a contest on the whaleshares platform. I just thought I should share it here..

So the theme for the contest is "sugar skull",I never knew what a sugar skull was until I came across the contest, I had to use google, so now I know.

Sugar skull refers to decorative skulls made from sugar or clay which are used in the Mexican celebration of the day of the dead.

The tradition of sugar skulls is for families to decorate their loved ones with both large and small handmade sugar skulls. Children who have died, represented by small sugar skulls, are celebrated on November 1. The larger sugar skulls represent the adults, whose celebration takes place on November 2. source

Step 1:

I did my drawing with adobe illustrator. I started the skull outline with the pen tool before coloring.

Step 2:

Step 3:

Every other thing was done with the brush tool. I just added the leaves below it to make it look a bit different from just a normal skull.

Step 4: final image

I just chose the colors randomly and it came out nice.
