นักพัฒนา Ethereum กำลังวางแผนทดสอบโค้ดตัวอัพเกรด Casper ที่จะมีการใส่โพรโตคอล proof-of-stake บน test network

โดยในช่วงการประชุมของ core developer ของ Ethereum เมื่อช่วงคืนที่ผ่านมา นาย Vitalik Buterin หรือผู้ก่อตั้ง Ethereum กล่าวว่าไม่เพียงแต่ Casper นั้นพร้อมที่จะถูกทดสอบแล้ว แต่มันจะยังสามารถช่วยเพิ่มความปลอดภัยเมื่อมีการทดสอบโค้ดผ่านตัว clients อีกด้วย ซึ่งนี่เป็นประเด็นที่จะทำให้นักพัฒนาหลายๆคนรู้สึกโล่งใจ โดยเฉพาะผู้ที่ทำงานพัฒนาที่ต้องเจอกับประเภท client หลายๆรูปแบบ

สาเหตุหลักๆนั้นเป็นเพราะระบบ cross-client environment นามว่า Ropsten นั้นกำลังถูกสร้างโดยใช้ proof-of-work (เหมือนกับเครือข่ายหลักของ Ethereum) และเนื่องจากการที่มีนักขุดเหรียญเป็นจำนวนที่น้อยมากให้การสนับสนุนเชนดังกล่าว มันจึงมักจะตกเป็นเป้าของการโจมตีบ่อย ในขณะที่ testnet ตัวอื่นๆอย่าง Rinkeby และ Coven ใช่โพรโตคอล proof-of-authority เพื่อจัดการป้องกันการโจมตี แต่การที่มันยังขาดไปด้วยฟังก์ชันในการทำงานร่วมกันได้ จึงทำให้นักพัฒนาไม่ค่อยใช้มันสักเท่าไร

และในขณะที่ Casper นั้นยังไม่พร้อมที่จะถูกติดตั้งลงไปในเชนหลักของ Ethereum นั้น นักพัฒนาที่เข้าร่วมประชุมเมื่อวานนี้ได้แนะนำให้มีการทดสอบระบบดังกล่าว

“ถ้าเราต้องการที่จะเปิดตัว Casper ผ่านการ hard fork อะไรก็แล้วแต่ ในภายหลังแล้วยังไงผู้คนก็ต้องเริ่มติดตั้งมัน” กล่าวโดยนักพัฒนานาม Peter Szilagyi

ผลของการประชุมดังกล่าวได้คอนเฟิร์มว่า Casper นั้นจะใช้โค้ด Python ในการติดตั้งทั้งหมด และมันได้ถูกทดสอบเรียบร้อยแล้ว

กระนั้น คำถามที่ตามมาก็คือการใช้งาน testnet เพื่อทดสอบตัว Casper นั้นจะมีความปลอดภัยมากน้อยแค่ไหน นาย Vitalik ได้เถียงว่าปัญหาเหล่านี้อาจถูกแก้ไขได้โดยการกำหนดเครือข่ายให้กับทีมของผู้ได้รับการเลือก ซึ่งสอดคล้องกับระบบ proof-of-authority ที่จะมีเพียงไม่กี่คนที่ได้รับเลือกให้ดูแลระบบ

ภายหลังผู้เข้าร่วมประชุมได้ตัดสินใจที่จะทำการวิจัยระบบ environment สำหรับทดสอบ โดยจะถูกนำโดยนักพัฒนานาม Piper Merriam และรวมถึงตัวแทนจาก Parity, Geth และทีมนักพัฒนา Casper
