In your own experience, you’ve probably only known really gross stuff that have blocked the pipes at your home. With just a quick look around the world, and you’ll find it’s not just disgusting things that have been found in the sewer, but some of the things found are just straight up strange.

Motocross Bike
What’s with people leaving their modes of transportation in the sewers of the UK? If you really prefer to walk, there’s no need to clog up the town pipes. While council workers were working on clearing the system in a village located in Trent, UK, they somehow came across a motocross bike and pulled it from the sewers where it managed to gather up loads of filth with it.Diamond Ring
A woman in California by the name of Carissa Wolter had accidentally flushed her engagement ring down the toilet. She had wrapped it in some tissue paper and left it on the counter while she did her makeup and forgot when she threw it into the toilet. After telling her fiance, Kevin Winter, they quickly contacted the community services district and soon a team was down in the dirt looking for the diamond ring. The ring was later discovered by the team just in pipe down the street from their home. Love conquers all, even jewelry that gets mixed up with the sewage.A Cow
We’ve mentioned animals that have somehow made their way into the drain pipes and sewage systems of the world. One livestock friend that went through their own sewage ordeal was a cow that ended up in the sewers of the farming village for up to 4 days. The cow belonged to a farmer who had been looking for the missing cow soon found it after villagers could hear the cow’s moos coming from underground. The cow then stuck her face out from an open manhole and soon rescue efforts were underway. Pulled out not long after being discovered, it was concluded that the poor thing was in good health and was in normal behavior.A Baby
Sadly, newborn babies get left in places like dumpsters and hospitals all the time. In Sydney, Australia back in 2014, a baby was discovered in a city drain after a father and daughter, who were out cycling, had heard the infant’s cries. For a while, no one had any idea who the parents of the child were until officials went door to door to all the houses in the area and found the woman who had abandoned the child. The baby was indeed rescued and was found to be all right and in good health.Fish
It’s not so weird you’d find an animal like fish in the pipes. After all, it’s all water and most systems are connected to a large body of water somehow. But while most fish are flushed down the toilet, you rarely ever see them coming up the other way. Not the case with a fire hydrant in Nova Scotia. Last year, firefighters came across the strange sight of a bunch of American bullhead fish trapped in the pipe of a fire hydrant. The fish were found after the firefighters had a bit of a battle with a grass fire in the area. Sensing something was off, they opened the pipes and made the discovery. It was apparent that the fish had gotten through the strainer that was meant to keep them out.Fleshy Mystery
A huge mound of what appeared to be flesh was discovered in the sewers of North Carolina back in 2009. From the camera footage below, no one seemed to be able to discern what they were looking at. After further investigation, it turned out it was just a huge colony of annelid worms all stuck together against the sewer wall. And if that doesn’t make your skin crawl, then hats off to you. Have you ever considered having a career in cleaning sewers? Or maybe you might want to wait for the next one to see just how strong your will and stomach are when it comes to sewage finds. The Fatberg
Before you go and think you know what a fatberg could possibly be, let us explain. While maintaining the sewers of the city of London, a grotesque discovery was made. The culprit behind what nearly broke a 70 year old sewer system and ended up frequently blocking pipes turned out to be what has been named a “fatberg.” This fatberg was said to be about 10 tons, that’s roughly the size of one of a school bus. A fatberg is a combination of congealed fat (most likely from cooking oils people pour down their drains when they’re cleaning pots) and whatever else comes down with it and gets stuck. Clearing the sewer of this thing cost around $600,000 and took 2 months to complete.
Gold
Now that we’ve gotten past the super gross stuff, let’s talk about something that’s actually pretty cool and something most people wouldn’t mind clogging their drain pipes. A water treatment facility in Japan had discovered there was at least 50 grammes of gold found in the sewage of the Nagano region. That comes out to about 5 million yen worth of gold and it’s predicted there could be up to 15 million yen worth of gold in the sewage if they keep looking.
