3 Reasons Steemit won't make it out of this decade.. (unless we make some serious changes!)

in #steemit7 years ago (edited)

Ok guys and girls,

Unfortunately here's another one of those posts... I'm going against your confirmation bias. Ignore or actually provide counter arguments.... But if you downvote you'll just be proving my point!

So without further ado...

  1. So first up... the happy clappy, ass licking nature of interaction on the site - it's like some weird cult where all the high ranking get put on some crazy pedestal. Some are waiting to be thrown a bone by the big swinging dicks... However, what's more worrying, is the censorship of "downvoting" from high authority members. One downvote can literally destroy your chance of success on steemit... The result? Tyrannical cringe worthy interaction.

  2. Most posts are not even read!! People are here to "work", not to "consume"... they are upvoting just to get in on the curation award action. Go to posts that are gaining traction and you'll see that the view count is more often than not lower than the upvote count or at the very least it's some crazy ratio of upvoting to views which is unheard of on any other media platform....ever.

  3. And last but of course not least, there's the fact that steemit is infact a ponzi scheme... Before you start shouting at me that it isn't, answer this quesiton... WHO IS BUYING STEEM AND WHAT FOR??? Where is the demand coming from?? Take the alt coin speculators out of it and what are you left with? People buying Steem cos they realise they need to gain more visibility by buying steem power to upvote their own content or get more curation rewards... So to really play in this game you need to "buy in"... Who benefits? The people who already bought in! Sounds pretty dodgy to me

Note - this also includes using steem lotteries such as randowhale, booster etc

(This is a slightly modified version of a previous post of mine. I am reposting it since the original got downvoted by an angry whale with no explanation and became practically invisible. These topics are important to discuss, so please let's have a civilised discussion here)

Been saying it all along. Steemit is a ponzi scheme. The whales who got their Steem Power for free has already powered down MILLIONS and have it sitting there ready to cash out. When they cash out and Steem crashes no one will be able to cash out because it takes 3 months to power down. I made a similar blog and was down voted by Dan Lamer himself.

yeah, it's a bit worrying. I actually have no problem with whales cashing out if the price goes up. The question we have to ask is where will the sustainable demand for steem come from?

Regarding those downvotes on your EOS post. That's a shocker. It's raw censorship - nothing more, nothing less.

What amazes me is how SLOOOOOOOOOW the growth rate is and how stagnant development is given its market cap. Alot of users never come back. Some users prefer to create Facebook Groups using posts in Steemit to sign up members ! LOL

I read some interesting post on Steemit. The platform will evolve and update should improve the user experience.

yep, let's hope so! If you have any links to any interesting posts, please link them here... :D

I asked for a list of upcoming improvements and got no responses.

Yes good post , maybe i don't understand the whole system but the thing that the majority of whales don't vote anybody and just upvote their own posts +their power downs it's enough to make you think again if steem could have a future. Oh and the new websites where you can pay a whale to vote your post , so they take the money from steemit + money from you + money from curation . What are the new users supposed to do ? Kinda sad since was one of a kind project and could work if wasn't everybody for themself.

Another reason: if you are posting stuff about You, and your life and no shit like "18 reasons to breath" you will get sad because is a social network about the moment not the quality

I've found some good quality stuff here. But, it takes some effort to find a community and a niche. I think there are some UX things that could be done to make quality post finding easier too.

I got a bellyRub and this post has received a 0.23 % upvote from @bellyrub thanks to: @matchecahelo.
