ABUSED.., and misused
Still fresh from the nest,
and brimming with hope.
So young and fresh,
she blossomed for the sun.
We thoughts of true love,
and pixie dust in her eyes.
A bond made by two
…til' death do you part.
That vow to the heavens,
a promise of the heart.
How was she to know,
the darkness of the air,
was heavy and hurtful
…and filled with despair.
The trust that's been broken,
can bend you at your knees.
The lack of any grace,
the honor deceived.
How could she believe,
she was meant for such strife.
With a bright shining future,
and the hope of new life.
But she hung by her clutches,
and scratched her way out.
Her body was tired,
but her spirit held strong.
And when it was over,
still broken from the fight.
She picked herself up,
and headed for the light.
And what would she find,
when she reached the other side.
A knight in shining armor
…or more abuse and misuse.

To me, the poem seems very sad, and of course it is about a very heavy subject. There is hope at the end, and I think there is always a chance that things turn out well. Bur as you said, scars linger on. Thanks for sharing!

Nicely done, @macksby! In the first stanza, is the line supposed to read, "With thoughts of true love," ? This is a very heavy one, I liked how innocence was portrayed in the beginning and then it was tempered with needing to learn how to take care of yourself in this physical world. Congrats to you for speaking on this difficult subject!
So many women I admire, that have passed through my life.., have had to experience some kind of unprovoked abuse. But through all that strength they have acquired, there's slight look of pain in their eyes. Thanks @ericvancewalton!
It's very sad, indeed. I've even met a few people in my life this has happened to as well. Abusers can be so manipulative.
