I used to watch these videos of Chiang Mai just to get an idea of what to expect for what price if you are moving to a new city. This place is right next to Bui Vien street, the backpacker street of Ho Chi Minh, so $400 was a good price in my opinion, for a pretty good room. It's a typical regular house converted into a guesthouse, with all the rooms rented out, but this is one of the nicer houses I had seen. They typically clean your room daily and do your laundry twice a week in these houses / rooms for rent.

There are different ways to find rooms, Kai found this one by contacting a real estate agent, I found my room/apartment on Airbnb, or you can just go down these streets and walk in and ask if rooms are available or bring a vietnamese speaking friend with you to call the numbers on the 'room for rent' signs on the houses.
