Al Pacino’s inspirational speech:

Have you ever wondered how can some people get the crowds to follow them? Get thousands of people excited about their idea and ready to act?

No, it’s not because these people are born with exceptional skills for public speaking. The ability to deliver a great motivational or persuasive speech is not a trait, it’s not a part of your DNA. It’s a skill and like any other skill, it can be learnt.

Here is a collection of the best inspirational, motivational and persuasive speeches of all times. They come from different areas of life: sport, business and politics.

But the best part is yet to come… I want you to get inspired by them. But I also want you to be able to make your speech just as strong. Just as persuasive. Just as inspiring.

So not only will you find the best motivational speeches of all times in this article, I am also giving you an exclusive insight into why they are the best motivational speeches. What tools and techniques are they using? I’m revealing it all.

The following list is you manual, your how-to to the amazing, inspiring and persuasive speech of your own.
Al Pacino, an Oscar Awards winner, delivers an amazing motivational speech in a movie, Any Given Sunday. Pacino’s character, a football coach, is lifting his team’s spirit despite the bad first half of the game. Here is what makes that speech one of the best persuasive speech of all time:

He motivates the team to play better by giving them only two option: “We win or we lose”. Framing it this way makes the team more committed to the obvious choice of winning. There is no other way. Either one or another. He pushes on the point even more: “We’re in hell. We can stay stay here […] OR we can fight our way back”
He makes the goal achievable by splitting it into steps: “Inch by inch, play by play”. Big goals are overwhelming, but if you split it into smaller ones, it suddenly becomes much easier to accomplish.
He is very honest and humble, he eliminates any distance between the team, and the coach. He gives away all the bad things about him. He is not perfect. That builds trust and makes people want to listen to him more.
He uses authority, by pointing to his age and life experience. He says that despite his many mistakes, he has learn that one thing that he is passing to the team now.
As a great actor, Pacino is obviously perfectly playing with his vioice. The intonation goes higher at the end of the speech when the action is needed so that the team leaves the locker room energized and ready to fight.
Alec Baldwin’s best performance:

There is one main technique that Alec Baldwin’s character is using and it’s authority. It starts with the way he is dressed (a black suit), his accessories (like watch and a car) to his perfect hair cut. It’s also reflected in his voice tone and.. arrogance. He intimidates them pointing how much money he earns and how little money they make. He makes comments in which he makes some of them feel as less than a man, using phrases such as: “Are you a man enough to take it?”. He calls them names, too. Authority is a great technique to become persuasive, though it doesn’t always need to be built in a way as in this video. It’s more difficult (but also, much more effective) to position yourself as an authority using other tools than arrogance. After all, we follow arrogant and aggressive people out of fear, not respect. You can learn more about techniques of persuasion here>> and become a great persuade yourself!

The girl who silenced the world at the U.N. for 5 minutes:

This is one of the most amazing speeches, and it’s because it’s delivered by a 12-year-old girl. Despite her your age, the content and her arguments are accurate and piercing. It is also a speech I like to revisit whenever I’m not fully convinced i can achieve my goal. If this girl could speak in front of the UN, then you and me can do it, too.

The power of this speech lies in the emotions. It is very clear that she truly cares about the topic, she is very engaged in it, and it’s close to her heart.
She is very well prepared. She has all her facts together. She knows very well what she’s talking about. That makes her seem like a professional and creates authority.
She is very self-confident and it’s very obvious in the way she speaks (her tone)
In her speech, she included a very powerful words, such as: dying, afraid, chemical, anger. These words have a strong emotional load and they activate old part of the brain in the listeners (to learn more about the new and old brain, watch this video>>)
She unites people with phrases such as: “We’re all in it together”
She uses repetition. The reason why it’s so strong is that the more familiar an idea is, the truer it will seem. Repetition creates familiarity and so in an indirect way, makes the whole message seem true.
And here is my personal favorite quote from her speech: “If you don’t know how to fix it, please stop breaking it”

Martin Luther King – I Have A Dream:

He pauses a lot in his speech. If you want to be powerful in your speech, don’t be afraid of silence. In these moments emotions sink in. After you say something important, pause before saying the nest sentence.
He uses some very powerful words such as: freedom, injustice, refuse, hatred, must, dignity.
He opens his speech by saying it’s going to be one of the most important moments for their nations in history. This unites people to the same great goal. It makes them feel important.
Luther’s speech is very action oriented and gives a sense of urgency. He uses phrases like: “Now is the time”, “We must not allow”.
He is inspiring, he talks about dreams (“I have a dream”)
He is very personal in his speech, he talks about his children, allows people to associate themselves with him. That creates likeability and trust.

Barack Obama Victory Speech: Yes We Can
Obama’s inauguration speech.

Obama speech has in it a lot of elements that we’ve seen in the previous videos as well. Here are some of the points that him a great motivational and persuasive speaker:

*Unites people with phrases such as: “Join in the work”, “Let’s look after each other”, “We rise and fall as one nation”

*He presents one big goal (to repair the country) as an easy task by splitting it into steps: “Block by block. Brick by brick”

*Obama uses powerful words like chance, liberty, hope, humility, change. he uses negatively charged words as well like immaturity and poison.

*Bring up Lincoln and shares his quote. Lincoln is a bonding symbol for all Americans

*His speech is action oriented,he asks listeners to: “Each of us resolves to pitch in”. He uses words such as responsibility and patriotism

*He accepts those who have not voted for him. “I will be your president too” he says. he says he will also listen to them.

*He tells a story of an African-American women. Stories are a powerful tool helping to motivate and influence others.

*He talks about children (“If our children were to live to the next century." Children are always a strong emotional hook..
