Mumbai, Nov 9: The Mumbai monorail services were hit on Thursday as two coaches of a train caught fire near Mysore Colony station in the early morning hours. No passenger was on-board during the incident. The services are likely to resume by afternoon on November 9.

The two coaches of a train went up in flames around 5.20 am on Thursday. The reason behind the incident is said to be a short circuit. The fire has left the two coaches badly damaged.

Reportedly, three fire brigade vehicles were sent to the spot and the situation has been brought under control now.

Notably, earlier in July, a major accident was averted when the when the two trains, going in opposite directions, ended up travelling on the same track near Chembur. However, the monorail authorities had dismissed the claims saying that one monorail had come to the rescue of the other, which had stopped due to some technical problem.

After continuous delays, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) finally began the trial runs for the Phase II of the Mumbai Monorail (Wadala-Jacob Circle stretch) from October 10.
