One of the most frequent question we hear working in Service department is: How often do I need to change the oil in my car? the answer depends in what kind of car you have, and in the year model of the vehicle.

For most Volkswagen vehicles 2008 and older the oil and oil filter change interval is every 5,000 miles or 6 months, the correct oil weight is 5W-40 full synthetic, Volkswagen recommend Castrol oil.

For most Volkswagen vehicles year 2009 and newer, Volkswagen of America recommend service every 10,000 miles or every year, the oil weight is the same 5W-40 full synthetic. It is also a good ideal to complete tire rotation every 10,000 miles or earlier if the car needs it.

Be aware that the 5W-40 full synthetic oil is designed for gasoline vehicles. For Diesel Volkswagen cars the correct oil weight is 5W-30 full synthetic.

Keep in mind that depending in the age and condition of your car, you may need to do the oil change more often, or you may need to top it off between services. Remember to do a visual inspection to check air and pollen filters, coolant, windshield washer fluid, brake and power steering fluids.

For more information about the service intervals refer to the owner`s manual or call your nearest Volkswagen Dealer.
