MAITIDEVI:A tantric goddess

Its been a long time i haven't post any content so Today I want to introduce you to religious place in Kathmandu Valley.This might help you when you visit Nepal.For today i like to introduce about MAITIDEVI TEMPLE

Maitidevi in Gyaneshwar,lies by the side of the road in Maiti Devi,a tantric goddess is a highly revered Devi temple of Kathmandu. The temple is believed to be very powerful and the source "parental home" of all Devis.
The name of the temple itself is derived from maiti (parental home) and devi (goddess)

It is said that offering water to Maitidevi before darshan of the Manakamana Devi in Gorkha ensures fulfilment of the pilgrim's wish.The locality of Kathmandu which derives its name from the temple. Along with the temple proper
the immediate vicinity of the shrine also contains the Mayur Kunda, the Brahmanala, and a cemetery.

According to legend, the temple was built after a divine peacock appeared here and
turned everything it touched into gold.Women who lived some 1400 years ago,
when Amshu Verma first set up the temple, would not have imagined in the worst of their dreams.The oldest edifice was built in 628 AD by Amshu Verma, a warrior under Lichhavi King Shiva Dev.Later on Until the beginning of 20th century, that is, when the Rana Prime Minister Chandra Shamsher erected the current structure in pagoda style like most other Hindu temples in the valley.

Maitidevi temple are based on tantric practices.” The prayer in its original form requires us to burn the human skulls, tantric says, “but that looks too ogrish today, so we make human face on a large dollop of ghee and burn it instead.Traditions associated with the temple continue to change with each generation, but a few have been going on for ages.

Inscriptions and idols from the Lichchhavi era found in the temple help date it to that period, although the site of the temple is also home to ruins from the medieval era.The temple is extremely popular and hundreds of people visit it everyday.
