Yu Darvish has struck out again after two years. It is his fourth strikeout season with 200 strikeouts since his Major League debut in 2012, and the record is tied with Hideo Nomo. However, Darvish had more meaning to complete the season than to strike out 200.

Darvish started the game against the San Diego Padres at Petco Park in San Diego on Wednesday, and recorded two hits, two walks, and 14 strikeouts in six innings. The Cubs won 4-1.

Darvish, who had 190 strikeouts before the game, struck out 200 in the fifth inning against Austin Allen. In the sixth, he struck out Nick Martini-Will Myers-Eric Hosmer at third base with no outs.

He struck out 14 times, the most in a single game this year. However, Darvish confessed that he had been in bad shape for four days since the last game against Milwaukee on Saturday (five innings without allowing any runs "I wasn't in good shape, but I thought I had to manage it somehow," he said.

As for the 200 strikeouts, "rather than putting meaning in the number of strikeouts, I passed 200, which means I threw a year and a season. I think it's good in that sense," he said.
