The left back has become a staple in Jurgen Klopp's defence and featured in the Champions League final defeat to Real Madrid last season.

His feelgood story reached another milestone on Monday afternoon when he was named as Scotland captain but that hasn't stopped him from receiving some stick from his Liverpool team-mate James Milner.

Following the announcement, Liverpool took to Twitter to congratulate the 24-year-old on his promotion to skipper.

However, among the many messages of congratulations from fellow professionals and fans alike, Milner couldn't resist a cheeky jab at Robertson.

Milner tweeted: 'Congratulations Robbo... better get in the gym to make sure that arm band doesn’t fall off!'

Robertson will succeed Scott Brown and lead his country out against Belgium on Friday evening.

The former Hull man has insisted that it is his proudest achievement of his career so far.

'It's a massive honour for me and my family - it's a great day for us,' he said.

'I'm looking forward to leading the team out on Friday, and leading them out in the future.

'It's probably the pinnacle of my career. I look forward to trying to lead this country back to major tournaments.'
