FRUITS & VEGGIES MONDAY by @lenasveganliving
The Durian The Controversial King of (Tropical) Fruits.
The durian is a highly unusual fruit produced in tropical countries in Southeast Asia. It is extraordinary in several aspects: In size, it is among the largest fruits in the world, second only to the breadfruit and the jack-fruit. In appearance, the hundreds of hard spikes on its skin are unique. In taste, its rich, exotic flavor is incomparable.
Durian fruit is not noted for having a particularly appealing fragrance, but it has many beneficial attributes having earned it's title as “King of Tropical Fruit”.
The fruit boasts a good amount of minerals such as manganese, copper, iron, and magnesium. It also contains potassium and the essential amino acid tryptophan, which the body converts in two chemical steps to serotonin and may help in the treatment of depression.
Like other tropical fruits such as banana, avocado, and jack-fruit, durian is rich in energy, vitamins, and minerals. It offers nutrients, water, protein, and beneficial fats. While very low in cholesterol and sodium, it is rich in dietary fiber and is a good source of antioxidant vitamin C, which helps scavenge harmful free radicals and assists in your body’s resistance against infection.
Health institute say that durian is said to positively have impact on digestion, blood pressure and cardiovascular health, aging (due mainly to its antioxidant properties), insomnia, sexual dysfunction, cancer, bone health (as a great source of magnesium, potassium, manganese, and copper), and anemia.
Durians pack a nutritional punch, but they are fattening. Spiky green fruit with thick and creamy, custard-like flesh is energy-dense, so if you are watching your weight, are diabetic, or simply health-conscious, you may want to avoid going overboard.

Wew....does it tastes like jackfruit?
I find it to have more of a crunchy cashew nut taste if eaten not to ripe :)
This is king of fruits, although I haven't try it yet............wonderful shots.
Thank you, is what they call it here in Thailand King of Fruits i think because it's so big. It has a horrible smell to it when it is really ripe and cut open but i like eating it when it's still green it's more crunchy and doesn't smell as bad and taste more like cashew nuts. They actually banded in Thailand form you taking this fruit into hotels or on public transport.
Sorry i put this in late i actually go it mixed up with #veggiewednesday.
