Lacrimosa - the kings of Gothic music
Lacrimosa is a Swiss band that has made a huge contribution to the development of Gothic music. Group leader Tilo Wolff is a big fan of Mozart's work and his favorite piece of music is Requiem. This is what inspired the group Lacrimosa (one of the parts of the requiem), which in Latin means "flowing tears." The genre of the group from album to album gradually changed, but all the metamorphoses took place within the framework of the Gothic style.
Tilo Wolf from childhood was a creative person, and having a need for self-actualization, was constantly in search of a suitable occupation. It was a play on the trumpet, writing small literary works. However, this did not fully allow the young talent to unfold, and Tilo began to learn to play the piano. Having mastered the instrument well, the young musician began to apply his literary feathers to music and the first two creations of Seele In Not and Requiem were released. Tilo wrote the texts in his native German language, and explained this by saying that in English he could not also uncover in depth what he wanted to show to his listener.
Soon the musician had enough material to record the first album, but not one label agreed to sign the contract. Desperate, Tilo made a "move with his knight" and opened his own recording studio. Having overcome many difficulties of doing business, Tilo still writes the first album called "Angst".
The album sells well, however, a musician prone to perfectionism, finds flaws in the album and starts recording the next material. Taking into account the first mistakes, Tilo invited session musicians and added a "live" sound at the expense of new instruments. The second album brings more success, and again Tilo finds flaws. By chance, fate brings him with the vocalist of the Finnish gothic band Two Witches, Anna Nurmi. Tilo lures her into her project, and Anna becomes his partner in the label, and they begin a fruitful cooperation.
From this moment the composition was completed, and Anna became a permanent member of the Lacrimosa group. She brought in that missing element that Tilo was looking for. With a vengeance the musicians began to write material for the next albums. Anna also became a co-author of many texts, and also began to perform keyboard parts. With each album, more and more interest came to the musicians, curiosity warmed up the question of the relationship between Tilo and Anna, from which they were always skilfully evasive.
At the moment, this is one of the most influential groups of the gothic subculture, having millions of fans around the world.
Some of my favorites
Heard Tilo and Lacrimosa for the first time. Loved it. The dark Gothic and the church music influence is awesome in Seele in Not and Requiem. Great post
