Still 50% / 50% By a Wide Margin
Steem to USD: 4.55 / Steem Dollar to USD: 4.07
Would this have an impact on the Default Rewards of 50% / 50%? Or should I Power Up 100%?
Recently it used to be that Steem Dollar or SBD was higher than Steem. If memory serves me right when I joined Steemit SBD was priced somewhere between USD10 and 12 while Steem was between USD 2 to 3. Given the big price disparity between the two, the 50% / 50% Rewards option was always the most advantageous to Steemians. The primary reason this option worked to the advantage of members is that it immediately gave half of the Rewards in SBD's or Steem Dollars which could be cashed out immediately. Secondly, the other half was given in Steem Power which, although converted at the internal rate of Steem to USD at the time of payout, gave members increased voting power and (I just recently discovered this) bandwidth. The third reason is the SBD's if converted gave more Steem with which to Power Up as compared to an outright Power Up which gave less.
Now the tables are turned. Steem is priced higher than SBD. Do I change my Rewards option to 100% Power Up or do I wait? Upto what point should I wait?
In an attempt to answer these questions, I did a series of computations comparing total dollar values and steem tokens I can get at different prices of Steem and SBD given a $100 Reward payout. The price simulations covered different scenarios as SBD below one dollar and Steem over USD 1 and vice versa upto a total reversal of values with Steem at USD 10 and SBD at USD2.
Findings - At no price scenario did Power Up 100% do better than 50% / 50%.
So at this point in time that we are in unchartered territory, be sure your Rewards are still set at default. You won't go wrong with it. Even if the value of SBD goes down below USD 1, the default option is still better. Get the SBD first, convert to Steem, then Power Up.

Actually, even if SBD is less than 1$, it is still best to use the 50/50. Please check my reply to @pinay comment here in this post where she inquired what the computations will be for $1.50 Reward at 4.00 Steem/USD and 0.900 SBD/USD. Result showed that if total Rewards are converted to SP, 50/50 option will give 0.408 SP compared to only 0.281 SP if 100% Steem Power is chosen.

Good to know 50/50 pays better.
When the platform was first designed, SBD was meant to be pegged to USD --- 1 SBD = 1 USD.
This design was to help keep a stable payment system for investors and authors. But in 2017, SBD starting going up a lot and the peg could not be maintained. Steem was always intended to have a higher price than SBD and this was true until pretty recently (just before we joined.)
There is now a possibility the witnesses will put this peg of 1 to 1 USD back in place. This is kinda of hot topic and you can vote on it if you care to.

Anyway, I was surprised with the results of my study which showed that even with SBD below 1 USD, the 50/50 is still better. I myself, and most people thought that 100% Steem Power would be better once SBD gets to USD 1 or lower. I just had to make sure and make people (at least those who care to read this post) know.
