Super Rig - Troll "A"
The Troll stands almost 500 meters tall and weighs 656,000 tons - it's one of the biggest man-made objects ever towed across the surface of the earth (currently largest is Texaco's Petronius platform). It's an offshore natural gas platform in the Troll gas field off the west coast of Norway. Troll A was built by Norwegian Contractors for Norske Shell in 1991-1995.
The Troll platform was towed over 200 kilometers from Vats, in the northern part of Rogaland, to the Troll field, 80 kilometers north-west of Bergen. The tow took seven days. The platform was a televised sensation when it was towed into the North Sea in 1996, where it is now operated by Statoil.

The Troll rig also sports some world records, including a deepest underwater concert in 2006 (303 metres underwater!!) in one of it's hollow legs. That was the 10th anniversary of Statoil's operatorship of Troll gas production, which was celebrated with a concert by Katie Melua held at the base of one of the hollow legs of the platform.
