How Long Does Sunlight Enter Earth? This is the answer
The blazing sun makes you probably wonder how far the golden rays on the face have traveled to greet all the way to Earth. Have they been lighting the sky all day long or just for a while? When was this light born?
A study was conducted and the result of speed of light was 299,792,458 meters per second (299,792,448 kilometers per second). The distance between the earth and the sun is 149.6 million kilometers (ie 92.95 million miles)
Scientists calculate that the average time it takes light to reach the Earth from the sun is 8 minutes and 20 seconds.
However, this time varies because the Earth is constantly orbiting the sun on an elliptical field, which is uneven
The distance between 147 million to 152 million km from the sun at any time.
When closest to the star, sunlight takes only 490 seconds (8 minutes 10 seconds) to reach Earth. And then at the most distant point, it takes 507 seconds (8 minutes 27 seconds) for sunlight to travel
Interestingly, those traveling photons (light radiation) are far, far longer than eight minutes. They were made thousands of years ago in the sun itself.
Once they reach the surface and escape they travel quickly. But they are made through a fusion reaction right at the core of the sun and VERY slow working out
They begin as gamma radiation and then become photons waiting to be released inside a giant star, a diameter 109 times larger than the earth.
Thank you
