WHAT IF? (An Original Poem)

in #story8 years ago

What if all
we've been taught
is wrong?

What if we live
in a world
where vanity
is a kind of virtue?

A place where
confidence and
self-love are
the first steps
in opening up
your heart
to the miracle
that exists within you.

What if reality,
as we know it
isn't truth at all
but its antithesis?

Comprised of falsehoods
that serve all
but the greater good,
bars that keep us imprisoned
so that we may never know
the true power of our souls.

What if instead death was a start...

It could be, most religions continue that to be true.

so lovely :D

Thank you very much!

Nice read.

Isn't it an endless circle - neither right nor wrong?

Love this! The more I stare at the image the more things I see! So fascinating!

The image is hypnotic. Thank you, @travelista!

I'm usually more of a fiction fan than a poetry fan, but I appreciated today's offering :-)

Very much appreciated, @kiwkideb! I'm glad that I've swayed you towards poetry. : )

I like that the poem poses a hypothetical, that it remains humble and doesn't try to answer itself but leaves it up to the reader to draw his or her own conclusion.

Mmm nice, but is it poetry or is it prose?

Thanks! I consider this to be free verse poetry.

Whenever I need to take a break and calm down I come to your poems and enjoy

I'm glad to hear that @timsaid. Thank you for coming back to read them!

I have "Our Greatest Fear" printed out and stuck on my wall

Every so often when I'm feeling self doubt I read that and it really helps quite a bit :)
