Initially Tjoet Meutia opposed the Dutch with her husband Teuku Muhammad or Teuku Tjik Tunong. But in March of 1905, Tjik Tunong was captured by the Dutch and executed by the coast of Lhokseumawe. Before his death, Teuku Tjik Tunong advised his friend Pang Nagroe to marry his wife and take care of his son Teuku Raja Sabi.

Tjoet Meutia later married Pang Nagroe according to her husband's will and joined the other troops under the leadership of Teuku Gantoe Young. At a battle with the Marechausée Corps at Paya Cicem, Tjoet Meutia and the women fled into the forest. Pang Nagroe himself continued to fight until finally killed on September 26, 1910.

Tjoet Meutia then got up and continued to fight with the remains of his pocket. He attacked and robbed colonial outposts while heading toward Gayo through the jungle. But on October 24, 1910, Tjoet Meutia and his faction clashed with Marechausée in Alue Kurieng. In the battle Tjoet Njak Meutia died.

On December 19, 2016, for his services, the Government of the Republic of Indonesia, mengabadikannya in the fraction of the new banknotes of the Republic of Indonesia, Rp1.000 denomination.
