10 Nigerian Food Dishes You should Eat...

in #food7 years ago (edited)

Nigerian dishes would include all kinds of foods that are served in Nigeria, this are the very popular ones. Most of them are easy to prepare.

1 Jollof Rice

Jollof's base ingredient is always rice, and "TPO" (tomato, pepper and onion) plus scotch bonnets. It's customisable according to your preference: make it hotter than the sun, or as mild as a European's palette. Add mixed vegetables if you want (please don't). Best enjoyed with piping hot dodo and a cold Supermalt.

2 Egusi Soup and Eba

The third on my list would be egusi soup and eba, or fufu (as in the case of the dish above). This is one of the popular Nigerian dishes, this soup is well received in Nigeria, it is mostly served alongside eba (prepared garri), fufu or semo.

3 Edikaikong Soup

Edikaikong is native to the efiks and made with two of the most popular vegetables in Nigeria (water leaves and fluted pumpkin leaves). I love this soup exactly the way it is served here – with well prepared wheat; it can also go with eba, fufu, or semo.

4 Pounded Yam and Egusi Soup

Pounded yam is incomplete without Egusi soup – melon soup.
Pounded yam is made by boiling yam and pounding it. Nigerians abroad prepare alternative pounded yam using yam flour but it doesn’t taste like the original pounded yam. Although, the Yoruba people are known to be fond of pounded yam, some other Nigerian tribes also love this delicious delicacy.

5 Akara and Pap

Nothing makes your Saturday morning better than waking up to the sweet aroma of Akara (beans cake) with freshly made pap. This meal is so delicious and tasty. Nigerians abroad will yearn for it whenever they wake up on Saturday morning.

6 Banga Soup

Popular in the south-south region of Nigeria but this is Edo and Delta state style.
The methods of preparation, herbs and spices differ from other states. Its exotic spices add a peculiar taste and aroma to the entire experience. It is best served with starch.

7 Bean and plantain pottage

Nigerians love a pottage, and they are most commonly made with yams (Nigeria is one of the top producers of yam in the world). This variation balances the nuttiness of brown beans with the natural sweetness of plantains, and the palm oil adds a rich smoky taste to it.

8 Tuwo Sinkafa

Tuwo Shinkafa is one of the most delicious foods in the Northern part of Nigeria. Tuwo is made by soft rice and spicy sauce. The Hausa tribes love this food

9 Amala and Ewedu Soup

Amala and Ewedu soup is classic Nigerian food, mostly eaten by the Yoruba tribes, especially people from Oyo State, but it is appreciated by other tribes.

10 Suya

Suya has been called so many names, barbecued meat, kebab and many others.

But Suya is Suya and you can only find it in Nigeria. There is no definition for the kind of feeling or sensation you get when you take hot Suya, especially when it is soaked in Yaji (Suya Spice).

This delicacy is utterly delicious that it gives Nigerians multiple foodgasms.
