Background

Severe economic and political crisis over the past few years in the South American country of Venezuela intensified recently, as president Maduro doubled down on his currency manipulation, price-fixing, propagandizing citizens, and suppressing resistance. You may recall an attempted "drone attack" with explosives a couple months ago - that's Venezuela. But it's far worse than our media is telling us, in the rest of the world.

I met a few wonderful people from Venezuela, and I started to hear their stories - and ask questions. I discovered the dark truth about the economic and political situation there. Shops are empty, people are hungry - the economy is at a standstill. Theft, corruption, and violence escalate as society breaks down. Millions are fleeing on foot - if they can escape. The harsh socialist government attempts to control almost every aspect of life, and blames problems on the people. Most government services (like running water) work only in certain areas - or not at all. A few days ago, Maduro announced that Venezuela will no longer accept US Dollars for oil exports, an act which brings more uncertainty for the people.

In the midst of all this, I met Edgar (@edgargonzalez), a Venezuelan man about my age. He's a father of young children, and a professional whose job disappeared because of the crisis. He feeds his family by fishing, foraging for fruits, and growing cassava on his late-father's plantation. Shortly after I met Edgar, a power outage caused a failure of the pump used to bring water up to the farm. A repairman confirmed: this time, the pump is beyond fixing. Edgar had been using his well to water his crops, and to provide drinking water to his children and other families in the neighborhood. Without a pump to bring water up from the aquifer below, his gardens have withered - and the neighborhood must forage for water elsewhere.

I could hear the desperation in his words when he posted just days ago, here:

"Making my route as usual through my plot, and in view of the difficult situation that my plants are going through, the lack of water, twice a day I make this encounter with nature and asking God for water from the clouds, since it is the only way to save what little I have left!" - @edgargonzalez

"We have tried to keep this plant alive by hauling water in containers, because we want to see what quality of banana gives this small plant and taste its tasty and nutritious fruit."

Without government water services, and now without water from his well, Edgar and a few other families are in a dire situation. When I heard about this, through Steemit, I realized that Steemit could also be the SOLUTION!

That's when I stepped forward with Mission Agua-possible! Once we gather 1300 USD worth of Steem, I'll transfer it to Edgar, to be converted to cash to buy the pump.

Water is life! Getting water flowing on the farm as soon as possible is vital.

Slow Progress

There was a solid community effort in week 1, generating about 36 Steem through a bunch of resteems and several generous upvotes. Since then, partly because of HardFork20, the threads haven't generated much buzz.

As I've said from the start, it's a matter of when, not if. This is happening. For the humans, animals, and crops involved, the sooner the better! Thank you for your help getting this week's thread SEEN, which is how we'll get it solved. Eventually, the right person may find our cause, and help us with a boost.

La grave crisis económica y política de los últimos años en el país sudamericano de Venezuela se intensificó recientemente, ya que el Presidente maduro se duplicó en su manipulación monetaria, fijación de precios, ciudadanos propagandizing y supresión de la resistencia. Usted puede recordar un intento de "ataque drone" con explosivos hace un par de meses-que es Venezuela. Pero es mucho peor de lo que nuestros medios nos dicen, en el resto del mundo.

Conocí a algunas personas maravillosas de Venezuela, y comencé a escuchar sus historias y a hacer preguntas. Descubrí la oscura verdad sobre la situación económica y política allí. Las tiendas están vacías, la gente tiene hambre-la economía está paralizada. El robo, la corrupción y la violencia aumentan a medida que la sociedad se descompone. Millones huyen a pie, si pueden escapar. El duro gobierno socialista intenta controlar casi todos los aspectos de la vida, y culpa a la gente de los problemas. La mayoría de los servicios del gobierno (como el agua corriente) trabajan solamente en ciertas áreas-o no en todos. Hace unos días, maduro anunció que Venezuela ya no aceptará dólares estadounidenses para las exportaciones de petróleo, un acto que trae más incertidumbre para la gente.

En medio de todo esto, conocí a Edgar (@edgargonzalez), un hombre venezolano de mi edad. Es un padre de niños pequeños, y un profesional cuyo trabajo desapareció debido a la crisis. Alimenta a su familia por la pesca, el forrajeo de frutas, y el cultivo de yuca en la plantación de su padre tardío. Poco después de conocer a Edgar, un apagón causó un fallo de la bomba utilizada para llevar agua a la granja. UN reparador confirmó: esta vez, la bomba está más allá de la fijación. Edgar había estado usando su pozo para regar sus cosechas, y para proveer agua potable a sus niños y otras familias en el vecindario. Sin una bomba para traer agua del acuífero de abajo, sus jardines se han marchitado-y el vecindario debe forrajear para el agua en otro lugar.

Podía oír la desesperación en sus palabras cuando se publicó hace sólo unos días, aquí:

"Haciendo mi ruta como de costumbre a través de mi parcela, y en vista de la difícil situación que están atravesando mis plantas, la falta de agua, dos veces al día hago este encuentro con la naturaleza y pidiendo a Dios el agua de las nubes, ya que es la única manera de salvar lo poco que han dejado! " -@edgargonzalez

Sin los servicios públicos de agua, y ahora sin agua de su pozo, Edgar y algunas otras familias están en una situación calamitosa. Cuando me enteré de esto, a través de Steemit, me di cuenta de que Steemit también podría ser la solución!

Fue entonces cuando me acerqué a Mission agua-¡ posible! Una vez que recojamos 1300 dólares de autoestima, lo transferiré a Edgar, para convertirlo en efectivo para comprar la bomba.

¡El agua es vida! Es vital obtener agua que fluya en la granja lo antes posible.

Hubo un esfuerzo comunitario sólido en la semana 1, generando alrededor de 36 autoestima a través de un grupo de resteems y varios votos generosos. Desde entonces, en parte debido a HardFork20, los hilos de rosca no han generado mucho zumbido.

Como he dicho desde el principio, es una cuestión de Cuándo, no si. Esto está sucediendo. ¡ Para los seres humanos, los animales, y las cosechas implicadas, cuanto antes mejor!
