Rally News: Ken Block WRC comeback?
Ford Performance has opened for a possible return to WRC for the gymkhana- and social media star Ken Block. After his team, Hoonigan Racing Division, quit the World Rallycross championship at the end of 2017, Ford Performance has plans to use Block in events in the Americas, but also a possible return to some WRC rounds.
Ford Performance global director Mark Rushbrook said the following to Motorsport.com:
“Ken’s been a great partner and we continue that relationship. We’re definitely going to see Ken Block in a Ford through this year. There’s definitely some consideration for that (a return to WRC), but still need to work through some things to make it happen. Ken is a fabulous driver; I’ve been in the passenger seat with him and I’ve got a lot of belief in him behind the wheel and he has a lot of social media reach for us. The relationship works.”
Ken Block is surely a good driver, especially when he gets to try multiple times to get the perfect shot for his Gymkhana videos. Though he hasn't impressed us too much in his previous WRC-rounds. Never the less his media value is HUGE, and will give Ford Performance and their partners a LOT of PR, and also the WRC if he will be driving. And that can't be bad, can it?
Ken Block is planning to enter his Group A Escort Cosworth in a rally. I hope he gets to do it!
That would be very good for the race, and with Ken Block fame it can bring more visibility to the WRC.
