Nicula Monastery a superb place in Romania with a rich history.

Nicula Monastery form Romania is one of the oldest monastic settlements not only in Transylvanian space, but throughout Romanian space. The beginnings of a monastic settlement here are related to the life of a hermit (1326), Nicholas, who gave the name of both the monastery and the village where it is found. The first historical testimony attesting the existence of the monastery refers to a wooden church dating from 1552, dedicated to the "Holy Trinity," which was renovated between 1712-1714 but was consumed after about a century and a half in a fire.

Is an important pilgrimage center in North Transylvania. An old place of Greek-Catholic pilgrimage, the church of the monastery hosted over time the famous icon painted in 1681 by the Luca master in Iclod. According to a report made by Austrian officers, the icon would be laced between February 15 and March 12, 1699. In 1713 Transylvanian Governor Sigismund Kornis led the icon to the noble residence at Kornis Castle in Benediugu Dejului, where it reached Cluj. After that, the icon returns to Nicula, in the newly built wooden church on the forested hill on the south side of the village, to house the church odor. According to the existing data the icon would have been given to the villagers in Nicula by the noble Romanian Ioan Cupsa.
