Hindu mythology is full of surprises. With a total of 33 crore Gods and Goddess, the stories are abundant and their power to amuse people even stronger. Today, we tell you about one of the sons of Aditi (the mother of Gods) and brother of Lord Surya, who once had a strange encounter with Lord Shiva.

According to Vishnu Purana, Lord Pushan is one of the 12 children of Aditi (who is also the mother of Sun god, Indra & Varun among others). Just like Lord Shiva, he wears braided hair and a beard. He is praised in eight hymns in the Rig Veda, and is believed to guard livestock and protect travelers from bandits, wild beasts & other misfortunes.

A narrative found in the Taittiriya Samhita explains that once Lord Shiva was excluded from a yagya organized by Daksha, his father-in-law. All the major deities of the universe were invited in this function. This is the famous Daksha’s yagna where Sati sacrificed her life due to her husband Shiva's insult (read that story by clicking here). When Shiva came to know about Sati's death, he was enraged. He arrived at Daksha's palace and started destroying his yagya. Meanwhile, Pushan was sitting in the ceremony and eating the sweets and other offerings of the yagya. Furious, Lord Shiva punched him in the face and broke all his teeth.
