University of Akron soccer: Rested Zips ready for Seattle in second round of NCAA Tournament - Ohio.com
Coach Jared Embick and the University of Akron soccer team thought they had one advantage heading into their NCAA Division Tournament game on Sunday at 1 p.m. It turns out the Zips (16-3-1) have almost 98 of them. With a week’s rest in between games, fifth-seeded UA was afforded a first-round bye and waited out the winner of Seattle and Washington in preparation of this weekend’s game. When it took the Redhawks overtime to beat the Huskies 3-2 in the opener, the edge got even bigger. Seattle (15-3-4) has to hop on a plane and travel almost entirely across the country after playing almost 98 minutes (97:57) to beat Washington.
