Looking For Adventure At Boonoo Boonoo

in #nature8 years ago

A 210 metre plunging waterfall and the solace of the Australian Bush is natural therapy for the soul. This gem of a National Park called Boonoo Boonoo (pronounced 'bunna bunoo') is a hop skip and a jump from my shop, a short drive just over the State border in New South Wales.

The bush is so full of interesting things and a life learning excursion for my twin two year olds. I told them that I couldn't promise we would spot animals but I could guarantee them we would find something cool. I love taking time out to embrace the school of life and see things that I take for granted through fresh young eyes.

The girls squealed with delight at the fallen logs in the bush (that was the cool thing apparently) and made up songs about how the falls were going to be ….Amazing.

The short six hundred metre walk down to the falls lookout was a little hair raising because two years olds have more confidence then skill. With only a short wire railing separating the trail from a steep bank, I laughed when my girls told me that the reason there was no elephants to be found was because they must have fallen over the steep edge off the path.

After the summer rains, Boonoo Boonoo falls cascade off the edge with thundering ferocity but at other times during the year it can be a mere trickle. The view from the falls lookout down into the gorge is always spectacular.

Local folklore has it that in 1903, Banjo Patterson (a famous Australian poet) proposed to his sweetheart Alice Walker at Boonoo Boonoo falls. This coupled with the enchanting raw beauty of the place has given the national park as reputation as a lovers getaway spot.

The National Park camping site is awesome, the walk trails beautiful and rock hopping and swimming in the river is the loveliest way to wile away a few days or even a few hours.

Until next time,

xx Isabella

Beautiful nature :-) It always enhances the impression of a photo when there are persons in the frame also :-)

I wish I were there, thank you for giving us all a glimpse at this great location!

Thanks, this took me back to Wisconsin hiking last summer. Beautiful trails, awesome nature, and adorable hats for the tots :)

Ahhh, the tranquility!

Awesome!
We took our kids to Australia a few years ago and went to the Blue Mountains - the scenery is awesome, breathtaking and simply beautiful - pictures don't do it justice xx
