The Godfather | Book Vs. Film
Some time ago, I was curious about, which is the best order to appreciate more the quality of both, the literary work and the movie? The options are:
-View the movie first and then read the book
-Read the book first and then watch the movie
Both options have their pros and cons, it actually depends on each person and other factors.
My personal experience with The Godfather was to read the book first and as soon as possible, watch the film, the book and the film are extraordinary works and the best simile to describe what I experienced, is the following:
" Watching the movie The Godfather after reading the book is like having sex with someone falling in love first"
In the book you fall into the plot, you can explore your own imagination with fantastic stories of characters alive, interesting and full of mystery, for me, the book at any time was boring. The most important thing about the book is that you managed to get into the mind of the main character Don Vito Corleone, the writers know that the best characters are gray, that is, neither very good nor very bad, because both cases are also repudiated by the spectators, they aren't people with whom we feel identified; Don Corleone is one of the best constructions of a gray character, I felt a very strong connection with him, thanks to the spectacular performance of Marlon Brando, makes you think that you have been brutally crushed with a much better representation of what you could imagine while you were reading the book.
The Godfather is one of the best-rated movies in the history of cinema (flawless victory) and now I can understand why, one of the best script adaptations in history. Why? Just because took the advantages that the cinema can offer, such as to tell the events that occur simultaneously, the film chronologically relates the events that give you a different perspective of the book, which is also an advantage in the book because it generates more suspense, all the performances are phenomenal, the photography impeccable(with a play of shadows) and the scenes picturesque and unforgettable.
In terms of changes, the film omitted many stories, I have no complaints, the movie is long enough already, it focuses on what is important, the story of Johnny Fontane, for example, is dispensable on stage, and also Don's wife is absent in the film. And the other changes also make a lot of sense.
In the book as the film, topics like: machismo, racism, religion are present, also there are business lessons and how to be more reasonable.
Spoiler Alert:
I am deeply in love with Italy, so I greatly enjoy the plot developed there. Al Pacino also performed an unbeatable performance, especially the scene of the murder of Sollozo and Captain McCluskey.
#FunFact Marlon Brando is the only actor in history who has won an Oscar and rejected it, and the oscar was precisely for this film.
I must watch The Godfather II soon to have an opinion, but it is almost as valued as the first. that's all,
ARRIVEDERCI!
