A brief History

Mikhail Timofeevich Kalashnikov was his name (AK-47 creator) was born 10 November 1919 (Russian: Михаил Тимофеевич Калашников, Mihail Timofeevič Kalašnikov) in the village of Kurya, Soviet Union of poor peasant families. At the age of 19, Kalashnikov joined the military service and joined the 24th Tank Regiment, the 12th Tank Division where he graduated from a tank mechanics school and became a tank-driving mechanic and reached the rank of senior sergeant (tank commander).

In October 1941, in a fierce battle in Bryansk, Kalashnikov was seriously injured and had to be hospitalized. It was at this hospital that he had the idea of ​​designing a submachine gun. Kalashnikov's ability as a designer attracted attention. He worked at the Moscow Aviation Institute. Beginning in 1942, Kalashnikov worked at the Central Research Small Arms Range of the Main Ordnance Directorate of the Red Army.

Until then in 1947 was born AK-47 rifle (short for Avtomat Kalashnikova model 1947). In 1949, the AK-47 became a standard rifle of the Soviet Red Army.

Kalashnikov is often asked if he feels guilty about his creation being used in bloody conflicts. But he argued by saying, "My goal in creating weapons is to defend my homeland. It's not my fault if Kalashnikov became world-famous and used in conflict areas. To blame is the policy of those countries not the designers of their weapons ". He also said that he did not know how his weapons could be in the hands of terrorists and bandits.

Kalashnikov died at the age of 94 because of illness in Izhevsk, about 500 kilometers east of Moscow. Kalashnikov died after he fought for years against heart disease and colon.
