Iranian FM throws his support behind Syrian Army offensive in Idlib

BEIRUT, LEBANON (2:40 P.M.) - Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif traveled to Damascus, today, to begin his talks with the Syrian leadership.

Zarif held his first meeting in Damascus with his Syrian counterpart, Walid Muallem; they would discuss a number of topics, including the upcoming Idlib offensive.

During a press conference in Damascus, Zarif touched on the upcoming Idlib offensive by the Syrian Arab Army:

"Syria's territorial integrity should be safeguarded and all tribes and groups, as one society, should start the reconstruction process and the refugees should return to their homes."

"The remaining terrorists should be purged from the remaining regions in Idlib and the region should be given back to the people."

"On the threshold of the Iranian, Russian and Turkish leaders' summit (in Tehran), it is necessary to hold talks with our Syrian friends on these issues and study the policies on a final solution in Syria through a political path which will be discussed in Astana."

Zarif is expected to meet with Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad next.
