Oil and gas company Advent Energy has been given approval to blast sonic waves into the ocean floor to assess gas resources, just 30km off the Newcastle coast.

This seismic testing is set to proceed before the end of May, which could overlap with the start of the whale migration period.

Seismic testing impacts marine life, impairs the navigation skills of dolphins and whales, and harms commercial fisheries.
This testing would be only the start. If Advent Energy is not stopped, we could expect more destructive seismic testing and potentially a commercial gasfield off the beautiful NSW coastline.
NSW must invest in renewable energies, not more fossil fuels which fuel dangerous climate change.

Our beaches, whales and other marine life are vital to our way of life in coastal parts of NSW. Your proposal threatens jobs in our thriving tourism and fishery industries.

Your proposal threatens what matters to us.

If you proceed with this development, you can expect concerted opposition from the community. We will come together to stop offshore gasfields in our coastal waters.

We ask that you please abandon the seismic testing and drop your plans for gasfields off Newcastle and the Central Coast.
