US Army trains 8,500 Kurdish fighters for battle of Raqqa

DAMASCUS, SYRIA (0:40 P.M.) – 8,500 combat-ready Kurdish combattants have undergone training by US special forces in northern Syria over the past year, Brigadier General Dave Anderson said on Saturday.

Furthermore, the US spokesman noted that armaments had been provided to 40,000 members of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF). The Kurdish-led army was also given 400 military vehicles, including Humvees and armored technicals.

In return, the SDF og PYD leadership have promised to wrestle control of Raqqa city, considered the Islamic State’s long-standing capital in Syria.
