Inventor creates ingenious bike store to deter bike thieves and you can build one too
Inventor Yannick Read has offered his design plans to anyone who wants to build one.
An inventor has designed an ingenious bike store which will deter even the savviest bike thief. His creation, the Biskiple, can hold up to six bikes and looks exactly like a builders’ skip.
It’s made entirely of reclaimed hollow timber pallets and is designed like an Ikea flat pack—making it a winner for any design-phobes.
Inventor Yannick Read said he created the store to encourage people to think more creatively about storing their bikes and deterring thieves. With an estimated 800 bikes stolen every day in Britain, the Biskiple could be the solution every cyclist needs.
Read worked with ethical transport organisation ETA on the design and build. While the bike store is in no way a substitute for insurance, the team at ETA are hoping Biskiple will inspire people to be savvier when it comes to bike security.
The Biskiple is not intended to replace the need for a good insurance policy but rather to compliment it…A determined thief can break any lock, but if they don’t know the bike is there in the first place it makes their life a little harder.
Read added:
Thefts of bikes are at a high and people have to be more creative about how they store their cycles or get insurance. We will send people plans for the Biskiple if they want to build one. But if it doesn’t take off, we won’t mind too much. While the Biskiple may not suit everyone, given its size, it certainly raises an important point on bike safety and the need to wise up to theft. According to ETA, the Biskiple can be built for around £100 and less if materials are upcycled. If you want to build your own, plans are available by emailing [email protected].

Ok great bike thief deterrent but who in their right mind wants a skip outside their house the whole time?
