When Metal meets Thor's Beard 7-Day Music Challenge: Your Top Albums - Day 6 - Twilight of the Thundergod by Amon Amarth

in #albumchallenge6 years ago (edited)

Oh shit this is the 6th day (not in a row, #FuckTheRules) and is time to grow a beard, yeah you read that right, you'll grow a beard just listening to metal, we move to the land of Vikings, Sweden, where we'll growl, screamed and luckily being stabbed or cleaved by an axe while listening to this album, because, yeah, this music inspires to do that (but not for real lol).

DAY 6

Source

This is AMON AMARTH 7th studio album, TWILIGHT OF THE THUNDERGOD can be perceived as a new beginning for the band, they take their classic death metal vibe and mix it with more melodic rhythms, with a line-up formed by Johan Hegg at the vocals, Olavi Mikkonen and Johan Söderberg in the guitars, Ted Lundström at the bass and Fredrik Andersson in the drums, they made this album a violent kick-off to reach new heights, the concept (yeah, again baby!) is relatively similar to their previous albums, songs about VIKINGS AND GODS AND EPIC BATTLES... what are we waiting for?! LET'S GO!!!

TWILIGHT OF THE THUNDERGOD is the first track in the album (yeah, no intro in this one, sorry to disappoint guys), and it's the first track every metal album needs, the song that gives the album its name kicks everyone in the face telling the epic and violent end of Thor (the thundergod, what a surprise!) when facing the terrible Jörmungandr at Ragnarök and is as violent as it has to be taking into account that you're killing Thor and the world serpent (those are like main characters, you know), with a fantastic solo and the unrelenting beat of the drums, this theme is EPIC as... well as Thor, I bet he'll be happy to listen to this.

Oh yeah this is a good one, and it's about your favorite one Loki (...yay Loki...) and how he brought the end to everyone else, TATTERED BANNERS, BLODDY FLAGS is the 6th track on this album and tells the tale of the coming army of undead and giants to the realm of the Aesir to kickstart Ragnarök, ominous riffs and heavy drumming are the trademarks of this song, and the atmosphere it achieves is simply dramatic, I bet Loki would be happy too (fuck you, Loki)

THE HERO is the 8th track of this album, this one turns the attention from gods to give protagonism to a dying Viking warrior, a mercenary to be exact, in his deathbed he refuses and denies all the affection and honors brought to him, telling everyone to let him die the peaceful death of a mercenary with no loyalties... Dude... who hurt you... Yeah I know, an axe in the battlefield but... C'mon love yourself a little, you have great achievements, I bet Ragnar's head wouldn't fly off 10 meters from his former body alone am I right guys?... What I'm just trying to cheer him up a little! You know before we pay him respects.

I particularly love this album, the new face they showed to everyone for sure was a great hit, the more aggressive approch they took for their music certainly put this album apart from the previous ones, and was a change that stayed with the band, the influence this had on future ones made by the band is strong still, I love this as much as I hate Loki and that is saying a lot.

TIME FOR THE RULES OF THE CHALLENGE, BITCHES!!!

Hell yeah! My favourite band of all times!!!!!!!!!!!!

Really? This is one of my favorites too, the Nordic mythological themes they make so fucking epic, I try not to listen too much of them because then I don't listen to anything else lol

Yeaaah I love everything related with Nordics, Vikings and Mythological themes, I would go live there if I had the money! The culture is so awesome! I have the beard tho, need the money now haha.
